Meet Dr. Brian Winsor

Education has been my life’s work. For more than 30 years, I have served as a special education teacher, elementary school principal, university professor, educational consultant, and school founder. Each role has strengthened my conviction that children are more than test scores and that meaningful education must attend to the whole person.

I founded Paideia Academies in South Phoenix to create an educational community that valued growth in body, mind, heart, and spirit. Winsor Educational Services carries that same commitment into more personalized work with learners and families throughout Jackson County, Alabama.

My purpose is straightforward: to listen carefully, understand the learner within the context of the family, and help identify practical next steps toward greater knowledge, confidence, responsibility, and independence.

Experience Grounded in Practice

My preparation includes a bachelor’s degree in history, a master’s degree in special education, and a doctorate in educational leadership. More important, those studies have been tested and deepened through decades of working directly with children, families, teachers, and school leaders.

I began my career teaching junior-high students with learning disabilities and behavioral and emotional disorders. That experience taught me to look beneath performance, understand what may be interfering with learning, and build from a learner’s strengths.

Beyond the Classroom

I was raised primarily in Mesa, Arizona, and am a veteran of the United States Army. An injury sustained during my military service redirected the course of my life and ultimately led me to pursue a career in education. What began as an unexpected change in direction became a lifelong vocation centered on helping children, families, and educators grow.

I am also a husband, father of five, and grandfather of eight. These roles have deepened my understanding that education begins within relationships and that families are a child’s first and most enduring learning community.

As an avid backpacker and outdoorsman, I continue to learn from time spent on the trail. The wilderness teaches preparation, patience, resilience, humility, and the importance of maintaining bearing—lessons that apply as readily to learning and family life as they do to wilderness travel.
